Rocky start follow into mid-season

by Emma Beat

The Lady Eagles made the annual trip to Haven for the Wildcat Classic, and despite the success of past years, finished seventh out of 8. The Ladys came in ranked 8th so their first game was against Moundridge, the girls lost 34-47. Their second game was a rematch against Conway Springs, the girls put up a good fight, but in the end the Cardinals came out on top 34-37. In the final game the Eagles played Inman coming out with a winning score of 47-40.

The next game on the schedule was against the Augusta Orioles. The Orioles came out on top with a score of 40-56. Lindsey Smith, senior, and Dani Molitor, freshmen, led the scoring with 8 points each and Amelia Govert ruled the boards with 8 grabs.

That Friday the team traveled to Andover Central for a meeting with the Jaguars and suffered a loss, 27-63. Krystal Gantz, senior, led the scoreboard with 8 points followed by Jess Miller, junior, with 7; Dani Molitor led in rebounding with 8. The Jaguars winning factors were their extremely physical style of play and nationally ranked junior Tiffany Bias.

On the following Tuesday, the girls traveled to old-time rival Pratt, and dealt a 16 point loss to the Greenbacks. The girls intense attitude and will to win were key in this potentially sub-state seeding game. Dani Molitor led the scoring again with 12 points, closely followed by Steph Funke, junior, with 10. Amelia Govert led the boards again with 9 grabs.

For homecoming Kingman hosted the Rose Hill Rockets for a rematch of the defeat earlier this season, which resulted in yet another loss of 61-37. Funke led the scoring with 12 followed by Emma Beat with 9. Beat also led in rebounds with 5. Amelia Govert and Tina Molitor both pulled down 3 boards. The key to Rose Hill’s success was four girls scoring in double digits.

The girls faced sub-state rival Clearwater and took another loss against the Indians 59-36. Although the stats were not posted at the time of printing, the girls put in a good effort in the first half, coming within 6 points, but were just not able to hold onto the game.
