KHS Students Finish 3rd in Stock Market Game
by Clint Dick
This year’s Entrepreneurship class headed by instructor Ms. Kenna Teel, competed against rivaling schools in what is known as the Stock Market Game. This was an online stock purchasing simulation in which students had to use their knowledge of the stock market to make smart decisions about buying stocks. Students are given $100,000 to start the simulation with a goal to earn the highest amount of income from the stocks purchased. The competition lasted throughout the entire second quarter, which means the simulation game took place during the time the stock market was in crisis.
Two teams from Kingman participated in the game; one group comprised of seniors Karly White, Shannon Weniger, and Clint Dick used their knowledge to finish 3rd out of 186 teams across Kansas. The return on their original $100,000 was 34.78%, meaning they ended the game with over $118,000. Emily Bush and Caitlin Watts, seniors, made up a second team competing for Kingman; they finished 46th.
Team member Shannon Weniger said, "I learned a tremendous amount about the stock market by participating in this game." Clint Dick stated, "It was fun reading the Wall Street Journal and actually understanding what was going on." |
